Discover New South Wales (NSW)

New South Wales has infinite, soft sandy beaches, spectacular natural resources and some of the world’s most celebrated and pulsating cities.

Discover New South Wales from Sydney, where only a short day trip away from the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains and the vineyard of the Hunter Valley is the famous Bondi Beach. Afterwards, why not take a drive northwards towards the coastal charms of Byron Bay and Coffs Harbour, or travel south to swim and frolic with the dolphins in Jervis Bay.  Travelling further inland you will arrive at charming country towns, the Australian Alps, and Mungo National Park.

In 1788, the colony of New South Wales was founded and comprised a larger portion of the Australian mainland. This included New Zealand, Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island and Van Diemen’s Land (now Tasmania).

The Aboriginal people who came to Australia approximately 40 to 60 thousand years ago were the original inhabitants of New South Wales and it is estimated there were about 250,000 of them in the region before European settlement.

The original custodians of the Illawarra region of South Sydney were the Wodi Wodi people speaking a variation of the Dharawal language. The northern coastal regions were inhabited by the Bundjalung people.

In 1770, Captain James Cook made the European discovery and survey along the unmapped eastern coast of the continent.
